Meditation

Meditative states used to be the preserve of Eastern mystics. However, in the last couple of decades meditation and the practice of mindfulness have made it off the yoga mat and entered mainstream vocabulary. There is a simple reason for this, research and advances in neuroscience have discovered the practice of meditation offers a wide range of psychological and medical benefits, from reducing stress to decreasing chronic pain and regulating emotions.

There are now numerous studies chronicling the benefits of meditation and the practice of mindfulness. These include:

  • Lessening anxiety
  • Enhancing self esteem and acceptance
  • Improving mood and emotional intelligence
  • Increasing mental strength and focus
  • Better decision making
  • Improving our immune system
  • Improving energy levels
  • Reducing blood pressure
